THE DRÔME DES COLLINES ! WHAT A LOVELY SURPRISE !

The Drôme is a department with many faces. A bike trip in the Drôme des collines allows you to discover the most unknown of them. This bucolic territory is characterized by its landscapes with round reliefs and plateaus that offer splendid viewpoints, delimited by the majestic walls of the Vercors, the Isère and the Rhône Valley. Far from the crowds, you will evolve in a rural atmosphere and you will discover villages and hamlets perched with small Roman churches. You will also find heritage treasures such as the Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval in Hauterives, the historical heart of Romans sur Isère or the surprising village of Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye.It is in Tain-l’Hermitage and the neighboring villages, that some of the most prestigious wines of the Côtes du Rhône are produced on terraced vineyards.

Highlights

  • Vineyards of l’Hermitage
  • Villages & towns of the Drôme des Collines
  • Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval and wine tasting (included in the guided version)

Choose the option that suits you: supported, guided or custom.

Supported Tour

The perfect balance between autonomy and assistance.

Thanks to the simplicity of use of the biking GPS, which we include, you can enjoy your day the way you want. We suggest places for lunch and dinner as well as the activities not to be missed on the itinerary we have created.

A support vehicle (van) and its driver-guide will accompany you. It will pick you up on the first day at the meeting place and drop you off at the end of your stay. At each stage, he transfers your luggage. For more security and comfort, the van is at your disposal for the duration of your trip. It will stay nearby to provide you with supplies, to solve any mechanical problems or to pick you up and transfer you to your hotel in case of fatigue or capricious weather. Finally, since we choose to offer you the most beautiful itineraries, it sometimes requires a transfer to make the junction between two stages.

Our trips are privatized, offering you the guarantee to travel in small groups with your friends or family.

BIKe itinerary

Welcome to the Drome des Collines

We will meet you at Valence TGV station at 2pm before driving you to your hotel in Romans sur Isère. We take advantage of this first day to adjust our bikes, discuss the stay in the Drôme des Collines and explore the town.

Romans sur isère LOOP

We go up the Isère Valley for a gentle warm-up, before reaching the village of Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye in the hollow of green hills, classified among the most beautiful villages of France and a must-see of the local heritage. It remains, as in the past, a formidable center of attraction for people curious about their history. Before reaching Romans, you will also cross many fields of fruit trees.

Romans sur isère > Tain l’Hermitage

Steep roads will lead you today to the hills of the Hermitage vineyards and its emblematic chapel which proudly stands facing the Ardèche and above the Rhône Valley. This unique place is the symbol of this vineyard which spreads out in terraces on the surrounding hillsides.

TAIN-l’HERMITAGE > HAUTERIVES

It is by the “Route du Sacré” that you cross the Drôme des Collines. On the way we discover places of worship and viewpoints on the surrounding hills and massifs. We stop in Hauterives, known for the Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval. Built by a single man, from 1879 to 1912, independent of any artistic movement, the Palais Idéal is unique in the world.

END OF TOUR

We will take you back to Valence TGV after breakfast to end this Drôme des Collines bike tour, unless you want to extend your stay with Veymont Travel.
