12 Days – 3 Countries – 2 Monuments – 2 Sportives – 1 passion

During these 12 days, you will experience two cycling monuments: Tour of Flanders and Paris – Roubaix. The Tour of Flanders is the most anticipated race of the year in Belgium. Since 1896, Paris-Roubaix has been the most spectacular cycling race in the world. It’s the queen of the classics. It is the length, repetition and irregularity of the cobblestones that make this race so unique.Veymont offers you an introduction to the track in the new Roubaix velodrome, then to experience Paris-Roubaix Challenge: Arenberg, the Carrefour de l’Arbre, and its mythical  open air velodrome. Finally, on the day of the pro race, it is in the paved sector of the Carrefour de l’Arbre; very often decisive, about 15 km from the finish, that you will view the riders passing by on their way to glory. We will guide you through three countries: Belgium, the Netherlands and France ! You will visit some of the most beautiful cities in Northern Europe: Antwerp, Gent, Bruges, Ieper, Lille.

    Welcome to Flanders

We welcome you at Lille Europe Train Station at 2 pm and drive you at your hotel in Gent where we’ll stay for four nights. After a bike fitting and a tour orientation, we explore this splendid city settled around the Lys river and its historical heart dominated by three majestic Gothic towers. Rich in a multitude of urban landscapes, from the quays of the medieval port to the massive silhouette of the fortress of the Counts of Flanders, as well as its museums, medieval squares and art nouveau buildings. As you will have understood, we did not choose to settle our Tour of Flanders basecamp in Gent at random.

    Oudenaarde – Kapelmuur

In order to enjoy Flanders unique atmosphere, we have planned today a leisurely ride from Oudenaarde to a mythical place: the Grammont Wall or Kapelmuur (1.2 km of cobbles at 7.8% with very steep sections) dominated on top by a picturesque chapel. Before the ride, let’s explore the very interesting Centrum Ronde van Vlaanderen (Tour of Flanders museum) as we follow the heroic achievements of Johan Museeuw, Tom Boonen, Peter Sagan and Philippe Gilbert. The place is a must. You can even find café coming with UCI rainbow colours !

We’ll end the ride by a round of Belgian beers before returning to our hotel in the magnigicent city of Gent.

    TOUR OF FLANDERS RACE Viewing

This morning we head off early to Antwerp to experience Tour of Flanders Pro Race’s start. You’ll be amazed by the warm atmosphere, in the Grote Markt at the foot of Antwerp’s City Hall and Cathedral. In the meantime, you can inspect the shiny bicycles and the legs of the race favourites from just a few metres away. Then we drive you to a nice spot near the Oude Kwaremont where you can view the race not once, not twice, not three but four times in a few hours (Female race x 1 and Male race x3). An entertaining day until the end of the race and an experience you don’t want to miss. (Oude Kwaremont VIP stands might also be available with supplement. Contact us for more details.)

    Bruges loop via the netherlands

This morning we drive to Bruges, our home for the next 2 nights. In the afternoon we’ll ride across the border with the Netherlands towards the North Sea, along canals and quiet countryside roads before returning to Bruges.

    Day off in Bruges

Located in the north of Flanders, at the crossroads of roads, Bruges became a commercial capital in the 12th century. Its richness made it beautiful and its historic centre is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Churches, civil monuments, houses were built around its many canals, which give it its nickname of Venice of the North. Bruges is famous for being the cradle of Flemish painting, for making sheets and lace and for the festivities celebrated on Ascension Day with the procession of the Holy Blood.

    Bruges – Lille (Belgium/France crossing)

We start our ride from the Museum of Race Cycling, a cultural space to the glory of cycling. We then ride various monuments and cemeteries along the Ypres Salient, an important front line, reminding us that bloody battles raged in this region during the WWI. We continue this day in the heart of History at the Kemmelberg, the theatre of violent fighting in April 1918 and the decisive landmark of the classic Gent – Wevelgem ! Finally we cross the border with France and ride along a canal to get to our hotel in Lille, our new home until the end of the tour.

Recon ride From LA Trouée d’Arenberg to Roubaix Velodrome

We immerse ourself in the legend of Paris – Roubaix with a recon ride including mythic cobble sections: Haveluy, Carrefour de l’Arbre, Camphin-en-Pévèle, la Trouée d’Arenberg…With its 2400 metres, la Trouée d’Arenberg is an integral part of the legend of Paris-Roubaix. The riders arrive here at full speed. But after a few hectometers on the descending false flat road, the weakest riders stumbled on this interminable sector, whereas the strongest ones continued to accelerate as pure natural selection.

Track Initiation & Visit of Roubaix’S vELODROME

After picking up your bib for the Paris –  Roubaix CHallenge of tomorrow, we will visit the Roubaix open air velodrome, and its mythical showers with name’s of Paris – Roubaix legends before concluding with an initiation on the track in the new Roubaix indoor velodrome.

    Paris – Roubaix challenge

Today you are living the legend of Paris-Roubaix by taking the start of the sporty “Paris-Roubaix Challenge” (75 or 140 kms). You ride on the mythical cobblestones 24 hours before the pro race! On our guided tour, our cycling guide will ride the event as well and support you all day.

Paris – Roubaix Pro RACE VIEWING

Located about fifteen kilometres from the finish line, Le Carrefour de l’arbre is one of the most difficult cobbled sector in Paris-Roubaix. It is very often where the race is played out. Veymont takes you there to enjoy the Pro race in a warm atmosphere !
