    BIKe itinerary

Welcome to Mont SAINT mICHEL’S BAY

We will meet you at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport at 11 am, before taking you to your hotel overlooking the beach in Granville (Normandy), north of Mont Saint Michel’s bay. We take advantage of this first day to adjust your bikes, discuss the stay and explore Granville. With its impressive rock, Granville has the flattering nickname of “Monaco of the North”. Here, life is organised around the harbours: for yachting, commerce and fishing.

    GRANVILLE – Mont Saint Michel

This first ride takes us along the cost in the Bay of Mont Saint Michel.  Cliffs and panoramas are like a window to other side of the bay. The closer you get, the closer the silhouette of the Mount will become a reality. The cult of Saint Michael was introduced in 708 on the Mont, which became one of the largest medieval pilgrimage centres. The Benedictines built an abbey there from the 10th century onwards.

Mont Saint Michel & Tour de France in Fougères

No riding today but several exciting activities scheduled. This morning let’s explore the iconic Mont Saint Michel, classified at the UNESCO. Experience that sense of a mystery that goes beyond the beauty of its architecture and the richness of its history. This afternoon we are in the beautiful town of Fougères to live the finsih of stage 6 of the Tour de France, at the foot of Europe’s largest fortress. After the finish, we have a transfer to the Loire Valley and we will stay overnight in the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud. It is one of the largest monastic cities inherited from the Middle Ages. It has been a UNESCO Site since 2000, as the entire Loire Valley.

Fontevraud to Azay-le-Rideau (VIA Chinon & Villandry)

Today, we will first head to Chinon. Its royal fortress and ramparts dominate the city. The first meeting between Joan of Arc and Charles VII took place within its walls. Then we continue towards Rigny-Ussé castle. It is only natural that you should find it similar in appearance to Sleeping Beauty, since it inspired Charles Perrault. Finally, we will ride towards Villandry‘s famous “French-style” gardens. We saty overnight in Azay-le-Rideau, which Balzac called this Château “a faceted diamond set by the Indre river “. It expresses all the elegance of the French Renaissance !

Tour de France in Tours & ride to Amboise (via Chenonceau)

We join the lively and gourmet town of Tours this morning to live the departure of the stage 6 of the Tour de France. It is at the start of the stages that the riders have the most time to give to the public: at the foot of the team buses, you can admire the equipment and even exchange a few words, take a picture or ask your favourite rider for an autograph.

In the afternoon, as the peloton, we head towards the emblematic Château de Chenonceau. A landmark of the Renaissance, it is distinguished not only by its unique architecture, but also by its exceptional collection of paintings by the great masters. After visiting the castle, we will end the day in Amboise, Here Leonardo Da Vinci is everywhere: at the Royal Castle overlooking the city and at the Clos-Lucé.

CHAMBORD LOOP (via Blois & CHEVERNY)

Chambord is an exceptional work of art, emblem of the French Renaissance throughout the world. It is a radically unique work, one of the jewels of the heritage of humanity. Its vocation is symbolic, aesthetic and spiritual. An affirmation of royal power but also an evocation of an ideal city, the monument remains an enigma that has not finished revealing all its secrets. We will discover Blois and its royal castle, the former residence of the kings of France.

We will continue our journey towards Cheverny and its castle, inhabited by the same family for more than 6 centuries! Hergé, the famous comic book author, was inspired by it for “Les Aventures de Tintin ».

    END OF TOUR

We will take you back to Paris CDG airport after breakfast, unless you want to extend your stay in Paris with Veymont Travel.
