Cycling the mythical Mont Ventoux & surroundings

Omnipresent in the landscape of Provence, which it dominates from its 1909 m altitude, the Mont Ventoux is a giant. From its summit, the panorama opens onto the Alps, the Massif Central and the Mediterranean. But to do so will require great determination. All around Mont Ventoux, under its bare top, lie wild gorges, orchards, olive trees, world famous vineyards, lavender fields and some of the most beautiful villages in France. A bike tour to Mont Ventoux and its surroundings is a must. No doubt.

BIKe itinerary

Welcome to Provence

We will meet you at Marseille Airport at 2 pm before taking you to your hotel in Mazan. We take advantage of this first day to adjust our bikes and discuss the stay.

Perched Villages & Senanque abbey LOOP

We are on the Provençal roads for a ride that will take us to Vénasque, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Gordes and Sénanque Abbey. Gordes, perched on its cliff, dominates the valleys and facies the Luberon. The village offers to the sun its cobbled streets where it is nice to get lost. Nestled in a small valley on the edge of lavender fields, the Abbey of Senanque is part of its environment, between stone and vegetation.

Dentelles de Montmirail loop

With magnificent views of the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, this itinerary will take you to villages secretly nestled at the foot of cliffs.

The Dentelles de Montmirail, it is also this region that gives the wines of the southern Côtes du Rhône their credentials, whose reputation has been exported throughout the world: Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Beaumes-de-Venise, Séguret.

Mont Ventoux (via Gorges de la NESQUE)

That’s why you came here. It is here that the Tour de France wrote its legend, it is the mythical summit that every cyclist dreams of conquering, like Bobet or Pantani.

The ascent of Mont Ventoux from Bédoin is by far the most difficult, the most famous too. These are 21 kilometres of ascent, 1600 metres of altitude difference, an average slope of 7.5% (8.9% since the turn of St Estève), slopes reaching 11.5% and almost no opportunity for respite.

On the way back, we will slide along the Gorges de la Nesque to finish this incredible day.

It is unfortunately already time to say goodbye. We will take you back to Marseille-Provence Airport after breakfast to end this Mont Ventoux bike tour, unless you want to extend your stay with Veymont Travel.

Veymont Travel retains the right to change the hotels if necessary as stipulated in our GTC.
