Nice - Verdon GORGES - Mont Ventoux - Gordes - Montpellier Cevennes

You are invited to experience the first week of the world’s largest cycling race, the Tour de France in Nice. You will enjoy the first stage in dontown Nice but as the pro riders, you’ll ride its backroads, between Alps and Mediteranean before getting into the unknown. During this tour you’ll explore the deepest canyon in Europe, the Verdon Gorges, but you will also ride through the Luberon Valley, discover Gordes and also challenge the myth among the myths, the Mont Ventoux ! At this time, Montpellier backroads will be waiting for you, so in a last effort you will conquer the Cevennes Natural Park for another day experiencing the Tour de France !

DAY 1 - Arrival in Nice

Thursday, June 25

We welcome you at Nice airport at 2 pm and drive you at your hotel near the Mediterraean where we’ll stay for three nights.
After a bike fitting and a tour orientation, we go for a short ride around the beautiful village of Eze.

DAY 2 - Ride Col de TURINI & Col de la Madone

Friday, June 26

Today we ride from the bottom of the Col de Turini, as the pro will do it on Sunday, and then continue towards the coast and the colourful town of Menton. One last effort will take us to the top of the Col de la Madone, offering great views over the Mediterranean one of the most famous climb in the cycling world as it is very often used by the pro during their trainings. We will see plenty of cyclists today for sure, and probably pro teams as well !

DAY 3 - Tour de France Stage 1 Departure & Finish in Nice

Saturday, June 27

Today is the Grand Depart of the 2020 Tour de France so we’ll spend the whole day in downtown Nice enjoying this great atmosphere. It is the beginning of a great adventure for the pro riders. The peloton will leave Nice before coming back to its streets several times before a great finish on the Promenade des Anglais, Nice’s famous boulevard.

DAY 4 - Verdon Gorges

Sunday, June 28

Today we leave Nice and the Tour to join Castellane at the entrance of the beautiful Verdon Gorges, Europe’s deepest canyon ! The view will be breathtaking all day, as we will cross the beautiful village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie . From here we jump on the van and reach Gordes, our home for the next 3 days, and one of the most beautiful village of France and with no doubt the most iconic of Provence.

DAY 5 - Luberon valley

Monday, June 29

Nestled in a small valley on the edge of lavender fields, the Abbey of Senanque is part of its environment, between stone and vegetation. Senanque Abbey remains as one of the purest witnesses of early Cistercian architecture. Nowadays the places are still in use and even inhabited by Cistercian monks as a place of retreat.

The village of Fontaine de Vaucluse had the privilege of giving its name to the department (Vaucluse) which means the enclosed Valley, at the bottom of which mysteriously rises the Sorgue. An enchanting site, La Fontaine de Vaucluse, continues to intrigue and attract visitors.

DAY 6 - Mont Ventoux & Nesque Gorges

Tuesday, June 30

That’s why you came here. It is here that the Tour de France wrote its legend, it is the mythical summit that every cyclist dreams of conquering, like  Bobet or Pantani. 

The ascent of Mont Ventoux from Bédoin is by far the most difficult, the most famous too. These are 21 kilometres of ascent, 1600 metres of altitude difference, an average slope of 7.5% (8.9% since the turn of St Estève), slopes reaching 11.5% and almost no opportunity for respite.

On the way back, we will slide along the Gorges de la Nesque to finish this incredible day.

DAY 7 - Montpellier backroads to SAINT-Guilhem-le-Desert

Wednesday, July 1

This morning we have a transfer to Montpellier, capital of the Languedoc province and our home for the last two nights of the tour. We’ll explore the scenic backroads of this beautiful region: Pic Saint Loup, Hortus and the medieval village of Saint-Guilhem le Désert.

DAY 8 - Tour de France stage 6 in the cevennes natural park

Thursday, July 2

This morning we head towards the Cevennes Natural Park to live stage 6 of the Tour de France. Lost in the wild, we will climb the unknown but breathtaking Col de la Lusette (21,7 km at 5,5% / 15% max) before viewing the race and the battle between the main contenders fighting for an epic win Tonight we are back in Montpellier to celebrate the accomplishment of this epic cycling tour !

DAY 9 - Departure

It is unfortunately already time to say goodbye. We will take you to Montpelleir TGV or aiprort at 11 am to end this Tour de France 2020 cycling tour unless you want to experience another bike trip with Veymont
