Cycling the HEART OF THE FRENCH RIVIERA

You are in Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, in the very heart of the French Riviera in a dream place, cycling distance between Saint-Tropez and Bormes les Mimosas, at the foothills of the Corniche des Maures, facing the Golden Islands (Hyères, Porquerolles). The rocky coast, bordered by pines, alternates between coves and beaches of fine sand. It is here that Veymont has its French Riviera Cycling Tour Basecamp so it is from here that we will bike during the next three days, to discover the panoramic roads overlooking the Mediterranean, the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the villages renowned for the charm of their narrow streets and the exuberance of their flora. But for now, let’s enjoy the beach, secretly nestled in the heart of lush vegetation, right down your hotel.

Ridge & Wine roads around Bormes-les-Mimosas

We welcome you at Marseille aiport this morning and drive you (2h) to your hotel ideally located between Saint-Tropez and Bormes-les-Mimosas, a stone’s throw from the Domaine du Rayol,

After a bike fitting and a tour oriention, we have a lunch on the sea view terarce of the hotel. In the afternoon, follow your guides ! For these first pedalling strokes, we take the Corniche des Maures for about fifteen kilometres. This leads us to the old village of Bormes-les-Mimosas, which lies on a hillside between the sea and the forest. Its alleys, which smell of plants from diverse and distant origins, are hidden by the pink tiled roofs of the old houses.

The road of the peaks of the Maures massif, linking Bormes to Rayol-Canadel, offers us a little further away breathtaking panoramas. Picturesque and on a mountainside, riding to the Canadel Pass and then back down to the sea by a winding road is a pure joy.

The bravest among us will choose the options towards the Route des Vins de La Londe (Route 2 and 3).

This morning we set off on a journey along the wild coast of the Massif des Maures. Further on, the old Provencal villages of Ramatuelle and Gassin (classified as one of the most beautiful Villages in France) stand on our way, isolated on their hills of scrubland and vineyards and offering a unique panoramic view of the Bay of Pampelonne, the peninsula and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

We reach Saint-Tropez at the end of the morning, leaving us all the time to discover this picturesque fishing port, its old village, its fish market and its regattas. The city reveals all its off-season charms, when deserted by the crowds, an exceptional luminosity, which seduced Matisse and many other painters, seizes the colourful facades of the old village. On the quays of the old port rival some of the most beautiful yachts on the planet.

After 70 km, we reach Grimaud, a perched Provencal village overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. With its charming squares and alleys, Grimaud invites you to stroll and could well be the end of the day unless, in a final effort, we decide to pedal the 25 km that still separates us from our hotel.
