Day 1

Welcome to Strasbourg, capital of Alsace and Europe!

We will meet you at Basel-Mulhouse airport or Strabourg TGV before taking you to your hotel in the centre of Strasbourg. We take advantage of this first day to adjust our bikes, discuss the stay and explore the city. As the seat of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, Strasbourg is one of the two European “capitals”. A pioneering city since the Middle Ages, it has managed to preserve its former splendour, to protect its natural spaces, thanks to the choice of trams and cycle paths, and to preserve a human scale around its Gothic cathedral and its old quarter of La Petite France.

Day 2

Alsace Wine Route – First part

From Strasbourg to Obernai

The change of scenery is on the agenda of this bike ride From Strasbourg, we follow the Canal de la Buche before reaching the first vineyards which will lead us along pleasant cycle paths to Obernai. This village is an essential stopover on the Wine Route because of its particular charm, which emanates from its Medieval and Renaissance centre.

Did you know that Alsace is the most flowery region in France! The Alsace Wine Route includes countless villages enriched by the presence of traditional geraniums suspended from balconies. A postcard image, further accentuated by the warmth of the cobbled streets and fortified villages straight out of the Middle Ages.

But we can also make a detour and discover in the middle of the forest, and at the cost of a beautiful effort, the holiness of the Mont Saint Odile, a source of inspiration for the devotees. The pink sandstone cliffs serve as a pedestal for a monastery, composed of a convent, four chapels and a terrace where we can discover a large part of Alsace. The famous pagan wall is a colossal work of art of mysterious origin.

Tonight and tomorrow we will spend the night in Ribeauvillé, ideally located in the heart of the vineyards.

Up to the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle

This morning we tackle the slopes of the Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg. This surprising stone vessel dominates the immense horizon from the top of its 750 m of altitude and made it possible to monitor all the roads crossing Alsace and Lorraine.

From the top of its bastion, one transforms into a contemplative dreamer moved by the mosaic of vineyards, and passing through the rooms, towers, footbridges, courtyards and narrow spiral staircases, one remembers the castles that one drew at school.

And to recover from our emotions, we stop at the Cave de Ribeauvillé. We take the time to taste and appreciate the finesse and elegance of Alsatian wines: Riesling, Muscat, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer… In short, you have understood,  that the hotel being not very far away is quite fortunate !

Riquewihr, one of the most appreciated places in Alsace, is an “open-air museum” that has managed to preserve its authenticity, behind its surrounding walls that only vines nowadays besiege.

A cultural centre and a gastronomic stopover, it is also a good starting point for cycling to conquer Eguisheim and its “Three Castles”! Located on a hill overlooking the Colmar region, the ruins of the Three Castles are part of the symbols of Alsace.
