Cycling A UNIQUE NATURAL SITE IN EUROPE : THE PARK OF THE VOLCANOES OF AUVERGNE. 

These powerful volcanoes once shaped the heart of France, and while they no longer disturb the landscape with their jolts, they still tower in majesty. In addition to the wild beauty of the Chaîne des Puys, a group of extinct volcanic cones stretching over 40 km, and its historical emblems – Puy de Dôme, Puy de Sancy and Puy Mary – reveal a more delicate face of the Auvergne, all in green meadows and panoramic roads, with at the key, the tasting of some of the best cheeses of France and the discovery of very beautiful villages.

Day 1 : Welcome to Auvergne

We will meet you at the Clermont-Ferrand train station at a predetermined time before transferring you to your hotel facing the Puy de Dôme. In the afternoon we will take the opportunity to introduce you to the program and adjust your bike.

Accomodation: Hotel Archipel Volcans 3* – Saint Genès Champanelle

With the Puy de Dôme watching us, we ride through the Volcanoes of Auvergne Natural Park, made of green plateaux and pastoral forests. On the way to Besse-et-Saint-Anastasie. we explore the Monts Dore and Sancy.

Route: Option 1 : 35 km / 600 m Elevation Gain – Option 2 : 65 km / 1100 m Elevation Gain

Accomodation: Mildiss Hotel 4* – Besse et Saint-Anastaise

The route leaves the Sancy massif to the south and the Cézallier, a desert-like mountain plateau. Tonight we are face to face with the Puy Mary, that we will climb tomorrow.

Route: Option 1 : 45 km / 900 m Elevation Gain – Option 2 : 85 km / 1400 m Elevation Gain

Accomodation: Auberge d’Aijean – Lavigerie

The Puy Mary volcano is approached via the Pas de Peyrol. We then reach green valleys before Salers, a pretty village perched on a hill and surrounded by rolling fields where the famous long-horned cows graze. With its small center made up of 16th century stone buildings and its panoramas of the Puy Mary, the place invites you to stroll.

Route: Option 1 : 55 km / 1100 m Elevation Gain – Option 2 : 60 km / 1300 m Elevation Gain

Accomodation: Hotel Le Baillage 3* – Salers

It’s the end of this bike tour in Auvergne with Veymont Travel. After breakfast your guide will take you to Clermont-Ferrand train station.
