A cycling tRAVEL in the heart of SPAIN.

Central Spain offers a variety of landscapes, where the Sierras and plateaus crossed by valleys are dotted with thousand-year-old cities. This tour takes you to the heart of Madrid, the Sierra Guadarrama National Park, the towns of Segovia and Ávila, and the Monastery of San Lorenzo.

Day 1 : Welcome to Madrid

We will meet you at the Madrid airport at a predetermined time before transferring you to your hotel in Madrid. In the afternoon we will take the opportunity to introduce you to the program and adjust your bike. We take advantage of the end of the day to visit Madrid and in particular the Gran Vía, the Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor.

This morning we leave Madrid by van, heading north for the Sierra de Guadarrama. Mountains over 2,000 meters high, vast forests and a variety of wildlife await you in this national park. Located between Madrid and Segovia, it offers the chance to discover one of the finest examples of Iberian nature. We spend the night in Segovia, where an impressive Roman Empire aqueduct serves as the gateway to this fairytale Castilian city, with the Sierra de Guadarrama as a backdrop.

Today’s itinerary takes us through the surrounding countryside towards San Ildefonso and its royal palace of La Granja. We take the afternoon to discover the wonders of Segovia: its Roman Aqueduct and its 167 arches, its Cathedral, the Alcazar, strolling through the streets of Segovia is a real pleasure… Perched on a hill with the Sierra de Guadarrama as a backdrop, the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll take you to the belvedere, where you can admire the city and take the most beautiful shot.

Today, after a short transfer, the stage starts in the heart of the Sierra de Malagón, offering panoramic views over a high desert plateau. Our route to Ávila, where we’ll spend the night, is punctuated by typical villages lost in the heart of the mountains. The “Meseta” is a high plateau, although punctuated by Sierras, covering a large part of Spain and giving a feeling of immensity.

Accomodation:  Hotel Parador de Ávila 4* – Ávila

Departing from our hotel, we quickly leave the city for the Sierra de la Palamera. Although desert, the environment changes with the exposure of the different landforms we cross today. The ramparts are the true symbol of Ávila, and on our return journey we can see them in the distance. They have earned Ávila the distinction of being one of the best-preserved fortified cities in Europe. With its cobbled streets and medieval sites, Ávila is a World Heritage Site.

On this final ride, we head east towards San Lorenzo del Escorial, where we spend the night. After the stage, we visit the monastery, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. San Lorenzo del Escorial, a town in the province of Madrid was born during the construction of the monastery of L’Escurial. This remarkable architectural ensemble was built on the initiative of King Philip II of Spain in the 16th century to commemorate the Battle of San Quintín.
