THE DORDOGNE & THE LOT, AN ISOLATED REGION OFFERING A PERFECT OF HISTORY, GASTRONOMY AND ARCHITECTURE .

In the Central West of France there are two territories with very distinct landscapes that complement each other perfectly: the Dordogne and the Lot also called Périgord and Quercy in the Middle Ages. This isolated region, made of forests, deep valleys and plateaus offers a perfect blend of History, gastronomy and architecture. Here walnuts, foie gras, truffles, ceps but also the famous Rocamadour cheese and Cahors wine make the gastronomy. Here again the caves of Lascaux or Pech Merle lead us in the footsteps of our ancestors, the castles, picturesque towns and villages such as Sarlat-la-Canéda bring us back to medieval times. Sometimes, the local stone houses are hung on the cliffs as in La Roque-Gageac. Often, the villages are perched on rocky spurs as in Domme, Rocamadour or Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. The diversity and beauty of the sites, magnificently preserved through the ages, contribute to the grandeur of France and we invite you to discover them.

Day 1 : Welcome to Dordogne

We will meet you at the Toulouse airport at a predetermined time before transferring you to your hotel in Montignac. In the afternoon we will take the opportunity to introduce you to the program and adjust your bike and explore the surroundings.

Parietal art has made the Valley of Man a unique place to discover, here 25 ornate caves are classified as UNESCO WHS. The cave of Lascaux offers hunting scenes including a hundred animal figures. The original cave was discovered in 1940 and closed to the public since 1963 in order to be preserved. Opened in 2016, the integral replica cave allows you to discover identical paintings and other engravings made by Cro-Magnon Man. The path continues along the Vézère river to the village of Les Eyzies and its cave houses, then to the medieval city of Sarlat-la-Canéda.

From bottom to top, you will discover the medieval town and its shopping street, the 12th and 13th century sanctuaries sheltering the Black Virgin, considered miraculous, and finally the castle and its ramparts, topping the whole. Not forgetting the delicate flavor of the cheese to which it gave its name.
