Cycling Languedoc: A Journey Through the Secret Treasures of Southern France

Expect a spectacular journey through the South’s most iconic landscapes. This region offers a striking contrast, from the valleys of the Tarn to the wild ridges of the Corbières. You will explore the heritage of Albi and bastides such as Cordes-sur-Ciel, before diving into medieval history in Carcassonne. Our itineraries lead you to the heart of Cathar Country toward the “Citadels of Vertigo” like Quéribus and Peyrepertuse.

Further east, the adventure continues toward the treasures of Languedoc. You will cycle from the imposing Pont du Gard to the arenas of Nîmes, before reaching the cool air of the Hérault Gorges. The route takes you to Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, a medieval jewel ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, then toward the natural amphitheater of the Cirque de Navacelles. Between the red lands of Lake Salagou and the vineyards of Pic Saint-Loup, every stage is a sensory immersion. A true paradise for epicureans, the region reveals a mosaic of terroirs: Corbières, Gaillac, or the wines of Montpeyroux. The power of local wines pairs perfectly with the character of sheep’s milk cheeses aged on the Causses plateaus.

The Best Time to Ride Languedoc

Tarn Region: Ideal from May to October. Spring and autumn offer the most beautiful light over the Gaillac vineyards, while the Tarn river provides a cooling breeze during the summer months.

Cathar Country: We recommend mid May, June, September, and October. The Tramontane wind is calmer, and the temperatures in the Corbières are perfect for climbing. The late season offers exceptional visibility from the citadels to the Pyrenees.

Languedoc: Stunning all year round, but particularly from March to June for the blooming garrigue, and September for the harvest season. The Mediterranean climate ensures maximum sunshine for the red landscapes of Salagou.

Expect a dramatic journey through Occitanie’s diverse soul. Explore the UNESCO red-brick heritage of Albi and medieval Bastides such as Cordes-sur-Ciel, or challenge the steep, rugged slopes of the Corbières to reach the dizzying ‘Citadels of Vertigo’ like Quéribus and Peyrepertuse. For those seeking authentic backroads, the Languedoc’s routes wind through the lunar red earth of Lake Salagou and the iconic vineyards of Pic Saint-Loup, offering a perfect mix of historical immersion and wild beauty.
